This exhibition presents artwork from across the career of the state’s most prominent portrait artist.  Artist’s Portrait of Wade Ward Hollowell is the featured object. Visual art: Jason Bouldin discusses his father’s art. Literature: artist’s son Marshall Bouldin to read his catalog essay. Music: artist’s son Mahlon Bouldin to premiere his own composition.

The Mississippi Museum of Art and the SonEdna Foundation proudly present an evening of learning about and celebrating the Harlem Renaissance, in conjunction with the exhibition
Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series: Selections from The Phillips Collection. The program explores the cultural revolution that occurred in Harlem in the 1920s and ‘30s, the legacy of which continues to impact creative genres to this day. Scholastic Art Awards

Reception immediately following in the Mississippi Museum of Art Trustmark Grand Hall
The Mississippi Museum of Art is proud to again take part in The Scholastic Art Awards, and art competition open to all 7th - 12th grade students in the state of Mississippi. Artwork is judged by two panels of three judges each, over a period of two days. Gold Key nominees are sent to the National Competition in New York. The ceremony is the culmination of the judging process and students will be on hand to receive their awards. All are welcome to attend.

This month's program is titled
Migration:  Sudanese Refugees in Mississippi:  When their villages were attacked, thousands of children walked hundreds of miles from Southern Sudan to safety in Ethiopia and Kenya before coming to the United States, most as unaccompanied minors.  Several of these young people, many of whom are now college students, will discuss their experiences of migration within and from Africa, sharing traditional Dinka storytelling, song, and dance. Dr. Iren Omo-Bare of the Millsaps Political Science Department will discuss migration in Africa. Dr. Greg Miller, professor of English at Millsaps and chair of the Sudanese Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi, will introduce speakers and offer thoughts on Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series.  The Very Reverend Edward O'Connor, dean of Saint Andrew's Cathedral, will reflect on the Sudanese in Mississippi.
