Gallery Guild Lecture | George Caleb Bingham and the River

Tuesday, April 17, 2018

10 AM

Trustmark Grand Hall

George Caleb Bingham elevated the nation's understanding of the Mississippi River as a source, not just of beauty, but also of commerce and politics, defined by the working river people he depicted. This lecture, led by Andrew Walker, Director of Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas, explores the poignancy of regional importance in Bingham's river paintings, both at the time they were painted and during a major revival of his work in the 1930s.

A special thank you to the Gallery Guild for generously opening this lecture to the public.
