This exhibition is a project of the Art & Civil Rights Initiative, a multi-year partnership between the Mississippi Museum of Art and Tougaloo College, supported by the Henry Luce Foundation, that leverages the art collections of both institutions to foster dialogue and interpretation about civil rights issues, past and present. The Art & Civil Rights Initiative is guided by the Center for Art & Public Exchange (CAPE), an initiative of the Mississippi Museum of Art supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. CAPE’s purpose is to use original artworks, exhibitions, programs, and engagements with artists to increase understanding and inspire new narratives in contemporary Mississippi.
