Museum After Hours | “Homeward Bound”

Thursday, August 17, 2017

5:30 PM-until

Mississippi Museum of Art

The book binds us together.

This month at Museum After Hours, we show our love for the printed page and stand at the storytelling crossroads of Mississippi visual art, literature, music, and film. Celebrate the opening of an exhibition of paintings by the late Mississippi artist Kate Freeman Clark and pick up your signed copy of “The Artist's Sketch: A Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark,” by author Carolyn J. Brown.

At 6 PM in the pop-up "Literary Lounge," participate in conversation about the intersections of visual art and the book with Carolyn Brown and artist Ke Francis; later in the evening at 7 PM, join Shane Brown and David Rae Morris, sons of the late authors Larry Brown and Willie Morris, who speak about growing up in the worlds of their fathers' stories. Brown also reads excerpts from unpublished Larry Brown short stories that he recently unearthed.

Dine with Chef and Culinary Curator Nick Wallace, who prepares a themed dinner menu inspired by Mississippi writers, and cap off the evening with an outdoor screening of “My Dog Skip” in The Art Garden under the Downtown Jackson skies. Music by Spencer Thomas of Young Valley. Cost: Free to the public; food and drink for purchase
