Artist Miriam Weems signs copies of her new book, Mostly Mississippi, from 10 am – 2 pm, and Wyatt Waters and Robert St. John sign their new cookbook, Southern Seasons, from 5 pm - 7:30 pm.

Guest presenter Melissa Hause discusses the featured work of art, students of poet Aleda Shirley give literary readings, St. Andrew’s Cathedral Choir performs, and Kathy Lawson discusses the work from a religious and historical perspective. This month’s program highlights work by living artists under the theme Exporting Mississippi’s Culture. Critz Campbell discusses his art and his ties to Mississippi,  Pulitzer Prize recipient Richard Ford reads from his work, and Los Angeles-based Jackson-native Claire Holley performs songs she has written. Crossroads Film Society, MMA proudly presents The Bishop’s Wife. Refreshments and cocktails will be for sale in The Palette Cafe by Viking.

Based on the award-winning “Unburied Treasures” programs, the Museum presents an enlightening series to broaden our understanding of works from the “Angels” exhibition. Guest presenter Lea Barton will discuss the featured work of art, Suzanne Marrs will give a reading from literature, John Paul will give a musical performance, and Steve Smith will discuss the work from a religious and historical perspective. The galleries will stay open until 8 pm for further viewing of the exhibition. Regular admission fees will apply. Featured artwork: Mario Ceroli, New York, New York, 1966. wood and leather. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11
VETERANS DAY PRESENTATION

3 PM, The Yates Community Room
Free ddmission
In honor of Veterans Day, the Museum hosts a presentation on the Tuskegee Airmen by historian and aviation artist Clint Martin. Martin, the nephew of a Tuskegee Airman, depicts in his art the heroic deeds of these African-American pilots of World War II who trained at Tuskegee Army Air Field. All veterans will receive free admission to “Angels” on Veteran’s day.


TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13
ICONOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Led by Museum Registrar and art historian Joanna Biglane, this workshop will elucidate the iconic images present in Between God and Man:  Angels in Italian Art, as well as offer Museum patrons a vocabulary with which to view art outside of the exhibition. Beginning with a definition and brief history of the icon, this lecture will illuminate its significance in art, particularly Italian religious art from the fourteenth century through the seventeenth century. The multiple meanings of reccurring symbols, characters, and locations in these images is explored, as well as the didactic purposes of these icons as both educational and moralizing tools. The galleries will stay open until 8 pm for further viewing of the exhibition. Regular admission fees will apply.

This exhibition presents the art of the distinguished second-generation German expressionist, Hans Friedrich Grohs.  In addition, it celebrates the recent gifts of his art to the Mississippi Museum of Art: thirty watercolors and drawings from Christine and Nelson Brackin, and eight watercolors from Jean and Ed O’Neil.

This annual presentation includes works from across the country in various water-based mediums, organized in conjunction with the Mississippi Watercolor Society.
