Mississippi Museum of Art Auxiliary

The Mississippi Museum of Art Auxiliary (“Auxiliary”) was founded in May, 1984.  The organization’s mission is to support and promote the growth and well-being of the Museum; to sponsor projects of various nature in support of the Museum; to raise money for the assistance of the Museum, including such promotional activity with the public as may be deemed desirable.

Since its incorporation, the Auxiliary has planned and executed a variety of social, fundraising, and educational programs and events – all to benefit the Museum.  One of its first, and perhaps largest, undertakings was the televised two-day auction known as “Thombai on the Tube.”  Produced as a live feed from the Museum, the auction offered a multitude of various items donated by Jackson’s best and well-known artists, craftsmen, restaurateurs, and retailers, among others.

The Auxiliary also sponsors an annual fundraising gala to benefit the Museum.  The events have been numerous and successful, and include the more recent and very popular New Year’s Eve extravaganzas.

The Auxiliary’s spring membership luncheon is a highlight of Jackson’s social season, typically offering a presentation or theme in honor of one of the Museum’s special exhibitions or programs.  Over the years, luncheon guests have enjoyed fashion shows, presentations by special guest speakers, as well as musical and literary offerings.

Membership in the Auxiliary is open to the public, with annual dues and a Museum membership required.
