School Visits and Teacher Resources

Available Tuesday-Friday, 9 AM-4 PM

GUIDED SCHOOL VISITS are taught by our Teaching Fellows, a cohort of eight college students from Belhaven University, Jackson State University, Millsaps College, and Tougaloo College. Teaching Fellows work closely with classroom teachers to ensure that your group’s visit to the Museum is as meaningful as possible, crafting a customized, thematic tour that aligns with your curricular goals. The Teaching Fellows engage students in close-looking sessions of three to four works during one visit with the goal of developing the students’ visual vocabularies and cultivating their confidence in making meaning out of a work of art. These sessions often include writing and sketching exercises to help students understand the elements of art, narratives being expressed, and the artistic choices made within a work. Tours are split into groups of 15 students and typically last 45 minutes to an hour. We can work to accommodate larger groups, but please keep in mind tours will be subject to availability. To reserve a tour day and time and connect with a teaching fellow, complete the form below.

SELF-GUIDED SCHOOL VISITS are also available and do require a reservation. To reserve a tour day and time, complete the form below.

SCHOOL GROUP ADD-ONS: For an additional charge, students can create a work of art with a museum educator in our studio classrooms. Museum education staff will work with you to plan activities that are related to your tour or accomplish your curricular or creative goals. Catered lunch options are available. (You may also bring your own sack lunches to eat in The Art Garden.) Contact Director of School Programs, Isabel Gray at igray@msmuseumart.org for prices.

Self-guided materials and classroom activities to complete before and after your visit are available through the MUSEUM APP.

Transportation assistance may be available upon request.
