Gallery talks offer visitors the chance to engage with a single work, or pairing of works, for a 30-minute talk led by Museum curators and educators, as well as local artists and scholars. Join Interim Chief Curator Roger Ward for this talk that highlights a diverse group of painters and sculptors, all represented in the exhibition, Central to Their Lives: Southern Women Artists in the Johnson Collection, who followed very different paths to artistic achievement. Some were widely recognized in their own lifetimes, some (like Marie Hull) received many distinctions and awards, while others were essentially ignored by their contemporaries and became "famous" only after their deaths.
This event is free and open to the public.
