CAPE is excited to announce “Art + Exchange,” a story-gathering tour across Mississippi to invite communities to share local histories, personal stories, and aspirations for the future. “Art + Exchange” is intended to introduce communities to the work of CAPE, lay the groundwork for future collaborations, and help the Museum respond to issues and histories raised by the public.
In the months to come, members of the CAPE team will be participating in these story-gathering events in partnership with arts councils, municipalities, universities, and other organizations.
“Art + Exchange” also serves as PHASE ONE of a series of artist-led, community-driven artist projects in the state occurring between 2018-2020. These projects, executed in the form of short-term artist residencies of up to $10,000, will engage artists and communities in collaborative exploration about Mississippi places and their histories, and produce art that builds deeper understanding and honors personal truths.
Following this initial research phase is PHASE TWO of the residency program, when artists will be invited to submit project proposals for collaborative artworks centered on narratives raised by communities. Six of these projects will be executed in collaboration with Mississippi communities.
