A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration

This powerful exhibition, in its final stop at the Chicago Cultural Center, explores the enduring impact of the Great Migration through newly commissioned works of art. The gathering will bring together political leaders, curators, scholars, and descendants of Southern migrants for meaningful conversations and reflections. The evening will feature:
Live performances of traditional music that honor the heritage of migration.
A chance to connect with artists, community leaders, and guests who have a connection to Mississippi, the Great Migration, and/or the South.

Doris Lucille Nichols Smith – Miss JSU 1960-1961; after undergrad, she migrated to Chicago to attend Northwestern. Medgar Evers registered her to vote, and she was actively involved in the civil rights movement.

*Please note the theater seats 250 people and seating will be first come, first serve. Guests who cannot sit in the theater can listen from GAR Hall or view the exhibition.
