Art & Coffee

Art & Coffee

Art & Coffee is an opportunity to gather and connect over the shared love of art. The pressures of modern living often distract us from the beauty that surrounds us. Art & Coffee is a moment to pause and savor the beauty of a work with a community of art appreciators and enthusiasts. Each month we will feature a speaker that is contributing to Jackson’s cultural ecosystem. This month we are pleased to welcome Kenya Rachal, attorney at law. Please join us on the second Saturday of each month at 10 AM.

Coffee provided by Urban Foxes.

About the speaker
Kenya Key Rachal is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a graduate of Louisiana State University, and Mississippi College School of Law. She has had a love for history since childhood.  At age 11, Kenya began exploring genealogy in an effort to solve family mysteries and understand how her ancestors, and others, fit into the history of their communities, state, and country. Never one to shy away from complex research, Kenya has unraveled numerous mysteries and is in constant pursuit of those that remain.

After practicing law in the Jackson area for over 25 years, Kenya has scaled back her legal work and now dedicates more time to historical research and preservation. For the past 6 years, she has served on the board of Le Comite’ des Archives de la Louisiane where she works to protect and preserve historical records for future generations.

Since 2023, Kenya has also worked at the Mississippi Museum of Art, guiding visitors in developing their own personal connections with art and history through closer looking tours.

Kenya lectures on a wide range of genealogical topics, including the use of written records, oral history, and DNA to uncover family history. She has also presented on the history of emancipation of the enslaved, and the impact of historical laws on the lives of women, Black Americans, and Native Americans. Today, Kenya is thrilled to be here with us to share some of her experiences and encourage you to explore your own family’s journey through history.
