Join us for an evening celebration of poetry and art with local poets from Jackson State University’s Spoken Word Collective in our permanent collection gallery, New Symphony of Time, followed by an Open Mic.

Spoken Word Artists


Ja’Miyah “JAMS” Stokes is a Junior Psychology from Chicago, Illinois. She is a Spoken Word Artist. She serves as the 2022-2023 Outspoken Vice President. 


Jamee “JEM” McAdoo is a senior Journalism & Media Studies major and Speech Communications minor from Little Rock, AR. She is a professional poet, award-winning playwright, former on-air radio personality, published author, and influencer. She serves as JSU’s MADDRAMA Performance Troupe’s Performance Coordinator and as the 2022-2023 Miss Outspoken Arts Collective. 


Atlanta, Georgia native Jasmine Thomas known as JT or JT the Poet, is motivated by the Black experience. JT has been writing and performing poetry for 15 plus years artist and pushes to create meaningful art. She has been featured in several productions in her years of performing however, her highlight performances are “Beyond the cave” the Nick Cave exhibit at the Mississippi Museum of art, “Poetry Out Loud“, and the Def poetry Jam reunion tour in 2020 . JT is the creator and owner of the Coffee House Effect LLC and The Coffee House Effect Podcast. A show that features positive and uplifting content centered around Blackness, art, HBCUs, & Black women. She has a B.A. in Media studies & performing arts from Fort Valley State University and a Masters in Journalism and Media Studies from Jackson State University.
