The C-Spire Stage, BankPlus Green, and The Art Garden
Using the medium of film, the Museum explores stories of the artists and art on view in Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé, Call and Response: Betye Saar, and New Symphony of Time. This three-month series, held on every third Friday of the month from March-May, will be viewed outside in The Art Garden and on the Bankplus Green. Curated and introduced by longtime Mississippi film commissioner Ward Emling, each film will include a panel to discuss the film in cinematic, cultural, or historical context.
Before she was artist, Dusti Bongé was an actress of extraordinary range and insight. She appeared on stage in Chicago, New York, on national tours, and later in films. One of the vaudeville acts she saw as she travelled was The Marx Brothers. In New York, Bongé did films at what is now Kaufman Astoria Studios in Brooklyn. Our March film is Animal Crackers, starring the Marx Brothers and filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios. Join us and our special guest Paul Bongé, Dusti’s grandson, as we discuss her life in cinema and enjoy the antics she treasured
