AT&T presents Makers in Their Spaces is an online offering in which MMA’s virtual participants are invited into the creative space – physical, mental, social, or otherwise – of a maker, thereby giving them unique insight into how that particular artist draws inspiration from their surroundings during this time.
Join us Saturday, September 11 at 10 AM, on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube, as photographer and 2021 Mississippi Invitational artist, D’Artagnan Winford, takes us on a virtual tour of his studio. Viewers will learn more about his process and see current works in progress.
On Monday, September 13 at 6 PM, join us on Instagram live, as we host an interactive discussion with D’Artagnan. We will learn more about his work and favorite pieces to date.
About the Maker
D’Artagnan Winford (b. 1977) is a contemporary fine art portrait photographer and art director who lives and works in the Jackson-metro area. A native of Itta Bena, MS., his soulful portraits pay homage to his Mississippi Delta upbringing. Winford’s distinctive personal style emanates a command of light, confidence, and peace, and expresses the vibrant spirit of Mississippi. Dancers, models, bodybuilders, Cuban cigar rollers, musicians, and everyday people all find common ground in his work. As the artist explains, “I love the human face. There’s a story behind every one of them and I wanna capture them and those stories.” As a child, Winford received prizes for his innate talent and, from a young age, he believed, “Everyone is an artist. It’s just like any muscle, you have to exercise it and it will get stronger.” An alum of Leflore County High School in Itta Bena, MS, he earned a BFA from Mississippi Valley State University. Winford is an international award-winning portrait photographer.
