Jackson State University African Drum & Dance Ensemble

Jackson State University African Drum & Dance Ensemble

Inspired by the exhibition, Joe Overstreet: Taking Flight, join the Jackson State University African Drum & Dance Ensemble (JSU ADDE) for a one-night-only performance. The ensemble’s performance will include West African and Afro-Caribbean works featuring both African and diasporic instruments, songs, and dances. Known for energetic performances throughout the United States and in Gambia, West Africa, the JSU ADDE creates a family friendly celebration of culture that engages audiences of all ages. Overstreet’s work was significantly influenced by the desire to reestablish connections to his African heritage, and his Flight Pattern works were known to inspire improvised dance movements, leaping as they do from the traditional canvas.

Attendees will have a chance to enter a giveaway for 2 tickets to the Jackson State vs Alcorn football game on November 22. Enter during the event for an opportunity to experience one of Mississippi’s most exciting game day traditions and celebrate the spirit of our state.

Free; registration required.
