The Japanese Garden at Meadowbrook Highlands features a serene teahouse for quiet conversation or meditation, a traditional arched footbridge, a koi pond, a moon gate, and several bonsais. As a true organic garden, it showcases native plants, local composting, and permeable walkways built from recycled materials, primarily foraged from neighborhood construction remnants. With an emphasis on native plants, the garden highlights low-growing shrubs, including various cultivars of Dwarf Yaupon holly, azaleas, hydrangeas, japonica, rhododendron, Japanese barberry, iris, and magnolias.
Garden Circle members are invited to enjoy a guided stroll through the garden with designer Allen Burrows, Director of Gardens at Meadowbrook Highlands. Allen will discuss his design inspirations, the installation process, and future plans for the surrounding area. Attendance is limited, and registration is required.
