Influenced by the writings of Sigmund Freud, many of the surrealists, including Dusti Bongé, fought the constraints of the rational mind and turned to the subconscious to produce their art. Similarly, the practice of mindfulness can merge the thoughts of the conscious and subconscious mind, as one takes note of their breath and body.
In this Mindful Art Moment, Managing Director for the Center of Art and Public Exchange and Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer, Monique Davis, leads listeners through guided looking of Bongé’s The Circus Cage while connecting what we see and how we feel. Listeners can participate in this mindfulness session in the galleries with a smart phone, or via the Museum’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
