This month’s Music in the City features trumpeter Ben Bullock and pianist Megan Rowe performing a program that blends classical favorites and modern works. The evening includes John Williams’ moving With Malice Toward None from the film Lincoln, Haydn’s beloved Trumpet Concerto, Kevin McKee’s colorful Centennial Horizon, and Jules Levi’s lively Grand Russian Fantasia.

About the performers

Ben Bullock is a faculty member at Hinds Community College, where he teaches high brass, directs the Jazz Ensemble, and serves as Assistant Band Director. He also teaches trumpet at Belhaven University and maintains a thriving private lesson studio in Jackson, with students recognized in the Mississippi Lions All-State Band and the National Trumpet Competition. A recipient of the HCC Honors Institute Honored Faculty Member Award, Bullock holds degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and remains an active performer in the Jackson area and with local orchestras.

Megan Rowan is a collaborative pianist and music director. She holds an undergraduate degree in piano performance from Belhaven University and a master’s degree in collaborative piano from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has experience working in a broad range of vocal and instrumental collaborative fields, including opera, wind ensemble, concert choir, show choir, and musical theatre productions.

She lives in Jackson, MS with her art professor husband and their daughter where she serves as adjunct faculty and collaborative pianist for Belhaven University and the director of choral music for Lakeland Presbyterian Church.
