Music in the City | Stephen Redfield and Michael Bunchman

Music in the City is a monthly program presenting live performances by classical and traditional artists. This month, we are pleased to welcome Stephen Redfield and Michael Bunchman.   You can also watch via the Museum’s YouTube page.

Violinist Stephen Redfield has been Professor of Violin at the University of Southern Mississippi since 1996. Recently awarded “Best Instrumentalist of 2018-19” by the Austin Critics Table, he was a student of Dorothy DeLay at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory and Donald Weilerstein at the Eastman School. A prize-winner in the Colman and Monterey Chamber Music Competitions, he has performed as a chamber musician and a soloist throughout the United States and internationally. This season he performed Bach’s E Major and the D Minor Double Concertos and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.  

Over his 40 years with the Oregon Bach Festival, Stephen has participated in numerous recordings, including the Grammy® Award-winning disc Credo. He is concertmaster of Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Arizona Bach Festival, the Conspirare Company of Voices and La Follia Austin Baroque. With the Victoria Bach Festival, his performances as concertmaster and soloist have been broadcast nationally. 

Pianist Dr. Michael Bunchman maintains a fulfilling schedule as a collaborative pianist throughout the United States.  He is currently on faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi as the director of the Collaborative Piano Program and is the Director of Music and Collaborative Piano at the International Performing Arts institute in Bavaria, Germany. Dr. Bunchman has performed with such distinguished soloist as Megumi Kanda- trombone, Milwaukee symphony, Dimitri Pittas-Tenor, Metropolitan Opera, Denson Paul Pollard – trombone from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, to name a few.  Companies he has worked with include the Utah Festival Opera, Natchez Festival of Music, Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Santa Barbara Opera, Opera Saratoga, the Princeton Festival and El Paso Opera.  Active as a concerto soloist, Dr. Bunchman has performed with the University of Southern Mississippi Orchestra, the Ridgefield Symphony, the Breckenridge Music Festival, the Antara Ensemble in New York City, the Utah Festival Opera Orchestra and the National Repertory Orchestra.
