Collection Highlights: Hiatt Fellow Acquisitions

The William B. and Isabel R. McCarty Foundation Icons of the Permanent Collection Gallery

In conjunction with the 2021 Mississippi Invitational currently on view in the Barksdale Galleries, this presentation of Collection Highlights features recipients of the Jane Crater Hiatt Artist Fellowship. The Fellowship was created 2005 by Jane Crater Hiatt and her late husband, Wood Hiatt (1930-2010), to encourage Mississippi artists to continue to live and work in the state while giving them opportunities for travel and learning elsewhere. It provides support to an individual artist from the current year’s Invitational in the development and creation of art over a two-year period. Upon completion of the Fellowship, the artist donates a newly created work of art to MMA.

These artists represent and demonstrate the power of the Fellowship, which is to have significant expansion within one’s practice, to facilitate cultural impact, and to serve as a catalyst for the development and realization of adventurous and imaginative ideas.
