On view in the Icons of the Permanent Collection Gallery

This selection of objects represents some of the most renowned Southern artists in the Museum’s collection. Whether nationally known or more regionally celebrated, the collective visions of these artists are a sampling of the South’s rich artistic legacy.

In anticipation of the reinstallation of the Museum’s permanent collection, New Symphony of Time, in September 2019, which will incorporate new acquisitions by contemporary artists, these works of art have been selected as examples from a variety of media that carry the potential to expand upon or even reimagine the narrative surrounding Mississippi and the South.
