What do you stand for?
Public monuments represent values of certain peoples and moments in the past. How can contemporary people create their own, living monuments that speak to the changing tides of modern life?
#JXNStands invites residents of and visitors to Mississippi’s capital city to assume the role of monument; to write down and stand proudly for whatever value, belief, or idea they believe belongs in the public square.
The Center for Art & Public Exchange at the Mississippi Museum of Art and Ourglass Media partner with area photographers to produce a visual record of what individuals choose to stand for at this moment in the state’s and city’s history. These portraits will be captured at events and locations in every city ward in Jackson, culminating with an exhibition that gives voice and a platform to a diversity of Mississippi people and imagination.

Call for collaborators:
Volunteer your vision to help us capture these moments. We’re looking for:

Photographers to help capture these portraits at scheduled events and locations throughout the city

Photographers to come up with their own concept for locations or a series of locations (a vacant lot, a public courtyard, Civil Rights sites, landmark historic spaces, etc.)

Community voices to suggest locations and to host #JXNStands photo shoots in city wards throughout Jackson.
