School Group Tours
Experiences with original works of art can be transformative for students. The Museum makes these opportunities accessible to all students, K-12 and beyond, through a variety of guided and self-guided tours and experiences. School groups must request a visit, whether self-guided or guided, two weeks in advance of your intended visit. After your visit request is received, an MMA staff member will contact you to confirm your visit.
See our full list of School Tour FAQs on our guided tour theme offerings, pricing, museum guidelines and policies, parking, and information to plan your visit.
Guided Tours
Guided school group tours are led by MMA’s trained gallery educators, our Teaching Fellows. Tours feature conversations about three to four main works of art and last around an hour, or can be modified given the goals of your visit. We offer a series of tour themes to choose from when you request a guided tour. Our guided tours can also be uniquely formatted around any specific curricular needs you may have, and each tour is adapted to support the age or grade level of the group. Please keep in mind that you must request a guided tour two weeks in advance of your intended visit, and that your tour will be confirmed with an MMA staff member after the request has been received. Tours are limited to 50 participants and require one chaperone for every ten students.
Self Guided School Group Visits
Lead your students on their own exploration of our galleries or utilize our downloadable teaching materials. Self-guided groups are welcome during regular Museum hours and groups must register in advance by requesting a visit, which will be confirmed with an MMA staff member after the request has been received. Please keep in mind that self-guided tours should be split into groups of ten students and one chaperone, with no more than 40 students in the galleries at one time.
