EventJackson Premiere of Black is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story

Inspired by the exhibition Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955-1985, we are thrilled to host the Jackson premiere of the documentary Black is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite story. The film celebrates a forgotten photographer, freedom fighter and activist, who helped popularize the transformative “Black is Beautiful” movement. Tickets: $5

EventAfterschool Art

Explore different materials and techniques in a choice-based learning environment in the classroom, galleries, and garden. Museum educators will support students (ages 6-12) as they respond to themes that change every six weeks. Free but registration is required due to limited capacity.

EventAccess for All: Free First Saturday

The museum offers free admission to exhibitions, drop-in artmaking (11 AM – 2 PM), and a free guided tour (2 PM) on the first Saturday of every month as part of Access for All, made possible by the generous support of the Art Bridges Foundation.  

EventYoga in The Art Garden

Join Maya Morris for a free yoga class in The Art Garden. Fresh juice from Sippsation Juice Bar will be available for purchase from 10 AM until sold out.

Through artmaking, outdoor exploration, and interactions with gardeners, learn how native plants support birds, bees, and local wildlife. Enjoy seed planting, create your own insect or squirrel character, and explore the Museum’s Art Garden through family-friendly activities. Bring your bathing suit for the splash pad!
