Two Fathers

1976

Jasper Staples and the artist’s father, Adyn Schuyler, shared a relationship as employee and employer; nonetheless, they were known to hold each other in high esteem. By 1976 Jasper would have spent his entire working experience under the employ of the artist’s family. The artist speaks endearingly of her life with Jasper and makes no misgivings to the nature of her relationship with him, often stating: “Jasper was like a second father to me.” Here the artist has captured an image of two men she honors as paternal influences in her life.
